One of the most impressive-looking blockbuster series’ to have arrived on Japanese screens in recent times is the Rurouni Kenshin series, based off the popular manga and anime of the same name. Its first film, simply titled Rurouni Kenshin, had the polish and sheen of a high-grade action feature and maximised its production value to its absolute peak. As far as adaptations go, it’s one of the best translations of comic book/anime into live-action film.

With Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, the follow up to the popular 2012 film and the first film in an epic two-part sequel, audiences once again meet samurai warrior Kenshin, who returns to battle Shishio, a feared and formidable enemy who inherited the title that Kenshin renounced – that of a sanctioned assassin.
